Superconducting Phases in Neutron Star Cores

چکیده

Using a phenomenological Ginzburg–Landau model that includes entrainment, we identify the possible ground states for neutron and proton condensates in core of star, as function magnetic field strength. Combining analytical numerical techniques, find much outer is likely to be “type-1.5” superconductor (instead type-II often assumed), which flux distributed inhomogeneously, with bundles fluxtubes separated by flux-free Meissner regions. We provide an approximate criterion determine transition between this type-1.5 phase type-I region inner core. also show can coexist non-superconducting regions, but only small part parameter space.

Magnetic fields within color superconducting neutron star cores

We discuss the Meissner effect for a color superconductor formed by cold dense quark matter. Though color and ordinary electromagnetism are broken in a color superconductor, there is a linear combination of the photon and a gluon that remains massless. Consequently, a color superconducting region may be penetrated by an external magnetic field. We show that at most a small fraction of the magne...

Bulk viscosity in superfluid neutron star cores

The bulk viscosity of the neutron star matter due to the direct Urca processes involving nucleons, electrons and muons is studied taking into account possible superfluidity of nucleons in the neutron star cores. The cases of singlet-state pairing or triplet-state pairing (without and with nodes of the superfluid gap at the Fermi surface) of nucleons are considered. It is shown that the superflu...

Non-equilibrium beta processes in superfluid neutron star cores

The beta relaxation time of the degenerate neutron star cores, composed of neutrons, protons and electrons, is evaluated taking into account the superfluidity of nucleons. We calculate the implied reduction factors for both direct and modified Urca reactions, with isotropic pairing of the protons or anisotropic pairing of neutrons. We find that due to the non-zero value of the temperature and/o...

Thermal conductivity of neutrons in neutron star cores

The diffusive thermal conductivity of neutrons in dense matter [ρ ∼ (1−8)×10 g cm] of neutron star cores is calculated. The contribution from neutron–neutron and neutron–proton collisions is taken into account. We use the transition probabilities calculated for symmetric dense nucleon matter on the basis of the Dirac– Brueckner approach to the in-medium effects and the Bonn model of bare nucleo...

Muons and emissivities of neutrinos in neutron star cores

In this work we consider the role of muons in various URCA processes relevant for neutrino emissions in the core region of neutron stars. The calculations are done for β–stable nuclear matter with and without muons. We find muons to appear at densities ρ = 0.15 fm, slightly around the saturation density for nuclear matter ρ0 = 0.16 fm . The direct URCA processes for nucleons are forbidden for d...
